About Gurbani Hub

A free site for reading, searching, and sharing Gurbani — built for the North Indian diaspora. No paywalls, no ads, no accounts. The Bani is, and always will be, free.

What we collect (and what we don't)

Gurbani Hub uses Vercel Web Analytics to know whether anyone is reading. That's the only data collection. Concretely:

Collected: Anonymous page view counts, top pages, where visitors came from (e.g. WhatsApp, Google), country, device class, browser. Real-time visitor counter.

Not collected: No cookies. No IP addresses are stored. No personally identifying information. No cross-site tracking — sessions are identified by a hash that is automatically discarded after 24 hours.

No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no advertising trackers. No GDPR consent banner because nothing personal is stored.

For technical detail, see Vercel's privacy policy for Web Analytics.

Data sources

The Gurbani text on this site is mirrored from BaniDB, the most accurate Sikh Gurbani database, maintained by the Khalis Foundation and the BaniDB Alliance. SGGS (Ang 1–1430) and the 10 standard banis are served from a static mirror built from the SikhiToTheMax bundled database. Dasam Granth, Sarbloh Granth, and search results still go through the live BaniDB API.

If you find an error in any Gurmukhi text or translation, please use the Feedback link in the footer to report it. We forward confirmed errors upstream to BaniDB so every Sikh app that uses their database benefits from the correction.

The data is licensed under the Non-Profit Open Software License 3.0 (NPOSL-3.0).

Audio recitations

Audio recitations on this site are not hosted by Gurbani Hub. We embed openly available recordings from SoundCloud, with the reciter's name visible during playback. The recordings remain owned by their respective uploaders and reciters.

If a recording becomes unavailable on SoundCloud, the audio player for that bani may stop working until we curate an alternative. If you are the uploader of a recording we've embedded and would prefer we remove it, please send a note using the Feedback link in the footer.

Bookmarks

Bookmarks are stored only on the device you're using. We never see them, never sync them, and never include them in any backups. They live in your browser's local storage and are cleared if you clear your browser cache.

To move bookmarks to another device, use the Export and Import buttons on the /bookmarks page.
